BANANA CAKE WITH CREAM CHEESE ICING

Mmmmm this cake was so good. It all started last year when my neighbour brought a banana cake with cream cheese icing to work. It was so good and she gave me a HUGE piece. Luckily it was on a Wednesday so I didn’t have to answer to the WW scale for another 6 days.

Since that time, I’ve been obsessed with it and I was lazy in trying to find a recipe. This recipe is my neighbour’s changed-up recipe that was already WW friendly but I changed it a tiny bit more. I changed the oil for applesauce and changed the time to put it in a cake pan instead.

RESTAURANTS: APPLEBEE’S

It’s funny that I’ve been putting off posting this for a while and just today Hungry Girl posts an Applebee’s guide as well. Hers will obviously be more in depth than mine since I only review what Josh and I are eating.

Here’s her link: http://www.hungry-girl.com/girls/biteoutdetails.php?isid=2155

Applebee’s is a great place to visit if you’re on Weight Watcher’s. They have 5 different items including steak, chicken, shrimp and salad items. All of those items are on the under 550 calorie menu (base of 11 points not including points from fat). This menu takes some planning to be able to eat from and not go over your daily points.

PITA PIZZAS!

Hungry Girl talks about pita pizzas all the time on the website so we decided one night that we wanted to try them ourselves.

Here’s how we made them:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 low fat, low calorie, high fibre pita
  • 1/4-1/2 c. Ragu pizza sauce
  • 1/4 c. fat free mozzarella cheese
  • 8 slices turkey pepperoni
  • any other pizza toppings you want

DIRECTIONS:

  • Preheat oven to 300 F. Place pita on baking sheet. Spread sauce on top. Place pepperoni on and sprinkle the cheese over top.
  • Place pita pizza in oven for about 10-15 min or until cheese melts. Turn oven on to broil HIGH and let the top brown.
  • Let cool and enjoy.

This was very simple to make and I enjoyed it a lot. Remember if you add different meats to the pitas, the calories and fat will go up. This has a base WEIGHT WATCHERS POINTS of 4.

RATINGS:

A: 5/5 (couldn’t be better for me)

A&W WHISTLE DOG REDONE

I used to hit fast food often. One summer, I ate A&W for breakfast almost every morning. If it wasn’t for the grease in the fast food, it might actually be healthy considering the breakfasts at least contain the protein from eggs and meat.

One A&W treat that went undiscovered by me for a LONG time is the whistle dog. It is a hot dog, sliced “hot dog style”, cooked flat side down on the grill, with a toasted bun, bacon and cheese melted on it.

RESTAURANTS: CHILI’S

This summer, we’ve been out to eat a lot. A place we can go that I can get a “fast-food like” meal, is Chili’s.

If you ever go to Chili’s and are trying to eat low fat low calorie, stay away from their appetizers and their Cajun Chicken Pasta. The pasta is my favourite entrée there but it is SOOOOO high in calories. If I remember correctly, the pasta packs over 1300 calories (base of 26 weight watchers points) and has almost 70 grams of fat (which adds another 6 weight watchers points to the total). This puts the total at about 32 points. At my heaviest weight, I was only given 28 points per DAY. There’s an eye opener for all you pasta lover’s out there. I know I just about gagged when I did the total in the restaurant.

FRUIT/VEGGIE WEEK 7

The fruit this week is tomato and the veggie this week is peppers of any kind. I know I won’t be eating them so I won’t be offended if you don’t :P

BAKED TOMATO SAUCE TAKE 2

So we decided we needed to make the tomato sauce again. See the first attempt for the recipe.

RESTAURANTS: GENGHIS GRILL

Genghis Grill is the best restaurant I’ve been to for Weight Watchers so far. It is a build your own stir fry restaurant and has choices for people who want to eat low fat, low calorie, low sodium, or people with allergies and such.

The dangerous part for people who are on Weight Watchers or trying to keep the calories low is the fact that it’s a semi buffet style restaurant. By that I mean, you are given a little silver bowl and you load it up with whatever you want to eat.

If you want to eat a little bit of the higher calorie stuff but don’t want to go overboard, you need to be careful how much you put in the bowl since there is no scale to measure what you put in.

THE MAGIC WORDS ARE: “SPECIAL DIET”

Last weekend when my parents were in Reno, I went to the waterpark with them while Josh was at work. This waterpark, greedy as they are, has a NO FOOD NO DRINK rule. You have to leave the park to eat outside food and drink and you aren’t allowed to bring water bottles in unless they are sealed Smart Water or Dasani bottles.

We had an entire bag of sandwiches, fruit and snacks that were all Weight Watcher’s friendly. By declaring it at the entrance (they searched our bags…) and claiming I was on a special diet (which isn’t totally a lie), they agreed to put the food in some back room for us. They told us to come get it from them and we could take it outside and eat it there when we got hungry.

Well, when we got hungry, luckily, my parents decided to stand in line to get a drink. I thought they were getting food so that’s what I told the staff member. She told me that she didn’t think we were allowed to take the inside food outside for some reason. She ended up giving me our entire bag of food and my waterbottle back and told me that I could eat it inside as long as if anyone questioned me, I told them I was diabetic or something.

This was pretty awesome so we took the food over to the over 21 island in the park, where there wasn’t a lot of people, and sat in some shade.

Hooray for exceptions!

IT’S ALL ABOUT MAKING CHOICES…

Egg yolks are something I never enjoyed so when we started Weight Watchers, I was thrilled that egg whites are something that they suggest to everyone. I’ve even gotten Josh into eating one or two eggs and topping it off with some egg whites.

Last Tuesday, after my weight watchers meeting, Josh and I went to Squeeze In, which is a 2 restaurant chain in Truckee, CA and Reno, NV. They are famous for their omelettes and were even featured in “Throwdown with Bobby Flay” (http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Squeeze-Ins-Best-Omelettes-on-the-Planet-Challenged-to-Throwdown-With-Bobby-Flay-1121272.htm).
